Printer Drivers might not get installed in

If the Windows XP drivers are installed in Vista for a Dell printers, then the Vista drivers will not install correctly. Our printer team in Austin has researched this issue and developed a process to remove the XP drivers to allow the Vista drivers to install ans work properly.

These steps were tested today and they work.
Removing XP drivers from Vista (for everything except the 720, A920, A940 and A960 printers)
1. Ensure there are no documents in queue.
2. Disconnect printer’s USB cable.
3. From the Start search box type “Programs and Features” and press the “Enter” key. Click to highlight the Dell printer and then click the button “Uninstall/Change”. Remember to disconnect the USB cable from the printer and reboot after you complete the uninstall utility for the printer.
4. From the start search box type “spool” and press the “Enter” key.
5. This will open the spool folder at “c:\windows\system32\spool”. Rename the following folders “c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32X86” to “backup”
6. Restart the computer.
7. Reconnect the printer to the computer and choose “Ask me later” every time the “Found New Hardware” wizard pops up (it usually pops up twice).
8. Reinstall the latest Vista printer driver from HTTP://support.dell.com.
